Summary: Story set in a fantastic world. Little Matt and Dom witness a curious celestial incident, caused by the arrival of a stranger. This stranger is the angel, Castiel, who becomes their good friend.
Feedback: would be lovely if you have some time! <3
Warnings: nothing.
Disclaimers: As you probably know, I don’t own Muse or Supernatural, but original aspects belong to me. So don't steal, please!
Author's note: The story was inspired by this dream I had. I borrowed the angel Castiel (Misha Collins) from the TV show Supernatural, but the story has nothing to do with it nor does it contain spoilers.

Explosion in the Sky – part 2.
Even now, at the age of thirty, the boys remembered the finding of Castiel with gentle smiles — or in Castiel’s case, sheepish smiles. Their lives changed drastically and while Matt and Dom were convinced it was the best thing that happened to them, Castiel would have hesitated before answering affirmatively. The two boys gained an unexpected friend; however, Castiel had to cope with the loss of his brothers and his home. Moreover, he had to get used to the life led by Cloudlanders.
When Mr. Bellamy came back from the council, he said that the other governors wanted to interrogate the stranger. Mrs. Bellamy was worried, saying that Castiel was just a child, but her husband assured her that they would be gentle and would not harm him. Dominic and Matthew watched as Mr. Bellamy took Castiel with him to the town hall. They hoped he’d be brought back; he was so interesting and they wanted to get to know him properly.
Mr. Bellamy led Castiel to a very neat room with pure white walls; it looked like a room in an elegant palace. The poor boy was shaking like a leaf, but the other governors – two men and two women – were as kind as Matt’s father. They asked him his name, where he had come from, and how he arrived in Cloudland. He told them that he was flying with his brothers when suddenly, a swirl appeared in the air. He was sucked into it and thrown into this foreign universe.
“But what are you, my child? What do you call yourselves in the other world?” one of the men asked.
“I’m an angel of the Lord,” Castiel answered as if he was asked something obvious.
“Angel…” the word was whispered with reverence, although Cloudlanders had only a vague idea of what angels were.
According to an old document, angels were winged creatures that once populated Cloudland too, but their mission was finished, they had moved to a higher dimension. These legends stated clearly that Cloudland was actually founded by them and turned into the prosperous world they had now, where evil was a term they could hardly explain.
The governors put their heads together to decide what to do with the poor, lost angel. Where would he live? Who would take care of him and who would help him integrate into their society until he could go back or somebody came after him?
Castiel heard their discussion and blurted out: “I would like to stay with Matthew and Dominic.”
They were his saviours and he felt close to them – two boys who were just like him. The governors were surprised by the categorical statement. They called in Dominic’s parents too and decided that Castiel would be brought up by both families – one week with the Bellamys, one week with the Howards.
When Mr. Bellamy took him home, Matthew and Dominic were so happy about the governor’s decision that they jumped around with their new playfellow and made Castiel forget momentarily about his rueful situation. He got not one, but two loving families and two “brothers” who grew fond of him from the first moment.

The truth was that Castiel needed the patience and love of his new family. Cloudland was so different from his home and it seemed that once he entered it, his body obeyed to the new rules. In Heaven, he had no idea what hunger, thirst and pain were. When he woke up the next morning with his stomach making weird noises and the pain, plus the dryness of his mouth, Castiel panicked. Luckily, the Bellamys soon discovered what the problem was and they told him he needed to eat with them and drink water from time to time.
Cloudlanders led a vegetarian lifestyle, therefore Mrs. Bellamy prepared Castiel a vegan burger with tofu. It turned out that the angel loved it and the Bellamys grinned while watching him munch it. Castiel tried cereals and strawberries and to watch him experience different tastes amused the Bellamys.
“Castiel, you should try bananas. They are the best thing in the world,” Matt stated and the angel took the fruit.
He wanted to bite into it, but Matt stopped him laughing.
“No, you have to peel it first!”
Castiel had to agree with Matthew that nothing compared to the sweetness of bananas. That first breakfast would become one of his favourite memories.
A bit later, Dominic and Snowflake showed up and invited the boys for a walk. Since Castiel loved animals so much, Matthew let him “borrow” his own puppy, a greyish, blue-eyed husky called Arctica. They took the same road as when they found their new friend and to their surprise, they found the lime tree in full bloom.
“I thought this tree was dead,” Matthew commented.
The place became so beautiful and the lime flowers smelled so good that the boys decided to remain there. Castiel lay down on the grass, on the same spot he was found. Matthew and Dominic followed his example, lying down beside their friend and watching the branches swaying in the spring breeze. Castiel closed his eyes and for a moment he believed he was home from the peacefulness that washed over him.
“Cas, what’s your home like?” Dominic asked.
The angel was surprised to hear the nickname, but he decided that since his friends also had shorter versions of their name, he could have one too. “It’s difficult to explain, but this place could easily be a part of it. It is bigger than anything you can imagine and it can change to anything you want. My brothers and I would fly from snowy mountains to dense forests in the twinkling of an eye. “
“Wow!” Matthew whispered, impressed.
“I bet Matt would fly to the part of Heaven where everything is made of bananas and chocolate,” Dominic said and they laughed heartily.
“Cas, dad says you’re an angel. I looked it up and I read that you should have wings. Where are yours?” Matthew asked curiously.
Castiel stopped smiling and replied with evident sadness: “I wish I knew because I feel so weird without them, so light and so empty.”
The boys didn’t know what to say to cheer up Castiel, so both Matthew and Dominic slipped their fingers between the angel’s fingers and squeezed his hands warmly. On that day, Castiel also learned what consolation and love were. A tear escaped from his left eye.

Castiel spent the next week with the Howards. As a welcome present, they took him to a market where he could choose a puppy for himself. The angel was very thrilled at the sight of so many cute dogs. However, as soon as he set his eyes on a golden retriever puppy he knew he wanted that dog to be his pet.
“What will be her name?” Mrs. Howard asked.
“I don’t know yet…Mrs. Howard, what is that pendant you’re wearing?” Castiel asked suddenly.
“Oh, it’s a piece of amber.”
“Amber, I like the sound of it! I shall name my dog Amber,” Castiel declared and hugged tighter the puppy who in return licked his right cheek.
“I think she likes it,” Dominic said, smiling.
This was another day that Castiel cherished. He got Amber, the dog that would be there for him forever, because dogs lived as much as their owners in Cloudland. Aging was also very different there: besides living more than the people of our world, Cloudlanders aged much slower after their twentieth birthday.
But Castiel often sneaked outside and went to the place of the accident, hoping that somebody would be waiting for him there. Once he even dreamed that Balthazar, his favourite brother, stood beside his bed and smiled, reaching out to take Castiel back home, but the dream ended too soon. The angel started crying and he only calmed down in Mrs. Howard’s arms, who rocked him gently and told him that it was just a dream.
“But I saw my brother. He was standing right there…” Cas pointed to a spot on the wall while still sobbing.
“Dreams are just images our mind weaves from our secret wishes and fears. They are not true, Castiel,” Mrs. Howard explained, kissing the boy’s forehead gently.
“Then I don’t understand why we have them,” the angel whispered as he fell asleep.
Even though the first dream made Castiel cry, he started appreciating them. He could see again Heaven and his brothers which gave him the impression that his home was close, that if he reached out his hand he would be able to touch it. Dreams gave him hope that maybe soon he would be back home.
