You are my Sun
Chapter 7. Halloween illusions
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. (W. B. Yeats)
Dominic jumpily smoothed the nonexistent folds on his coat and huffed in the cold evening air. He couldn’t believe that Halloween Eve had come so fast, but nevertheless, he was more than glad it had arrived. He held Linda’s birthday present in his left hand while he rang the doorbell with his right hand. To his surprise, Chris was the one who opened the door with a huge grin plastered on his face.
“Dom! Hi! Come in, come in!” Chris ushered his friend inside cheerily, hugging him when they were both inside the warm house.
“Hello, Chris!” Dom smiled back, the fever of excitement infecting him as well. He couldn’t help but laugh when he noticed Chris’ red leather costume. “Ha ha, don’t tell me you dressed up as the Devil? “ Dominic laughed so heartily that he held his belly when he saw his friend’s long, red “tail”.
“Very funny, Howard! Very funny. Linda wanted to be an angel this evening and naturally, I dressed up as her evil partner,” Chris explained, excusing himself for the ridiculously tight-fitting attire.
Dominic looked around curiously and asked: “So, where’s the birthday girl?”
The two boys heard footsteps behind their back but instead of finding Linda, they saw Tom. Tom had a mischievous look on his face, his camera was hanging on his neck and, of course, in his hand he held the indispensable requirement of any party, a bottle of beer.
“Oh, Tom, it’s great to see you!” Dominic said with a smile while he shook hands with the other teenager. He added cheekily, “I assume you’ve already started partying, haven’t you?”
“But of course! This bottle is empty; I came to put it down and take another one,” answered Tom. As he stepped in a floodlit area, Dom continued his laughing fit because his photographer friend had whiskers drawn on his face and cute, fluffy kitten-ears on his head.
“Chris, I didn’t know you have a Tom-cat, ha ha!” Dom shrilled gleefully, Chris joining his hysterical laughter.
The black-haired boy was slightly upset and wanted revenge: “Oh, look at the little show-off! Let’s see the reason for your pomposity, Howard!” without thinking, Tom stripped off the coat from Dom, who remained stock-still during the whole operation. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the blonde boy’s face which reflected the greatest astonishment, but the faces of Chris and Tom when they picked up their friend’s costume.
“Don’t you like my clothes?” asked Dom in a faint voice, afraid of the mockery that would follow.
However, the other two boys just looked at him in disbelief. Tom instinctively held up his camera and took pictures from different angles, hoping that he would catch on the film the soft glow surrounding Dominic.
“Holy shit, mate, where did get this?!” Chris cried out while his fingertips barely touched the expensive fabric of Dom’s jacket.
The blonde boy stepped to the mirror and admired himself. The long coat which was embroidered with gold and silver complicated patterns, gave him an air of elegance which only a real nobleman could have. The collar and the sleeves of the coat were made of fine, ivory lace which added to the grace of Dom’s appearance. Even the baggy pants suited Dom, who simply shone in the dimly lit hallway.
“My cousin is a property-man at the theatre and he let me borrow the attire of Louis XIV, the so called Sun King,” Dom explained with a proud smile playing on his lips, “It’s pretty cool, right?”
“Pretty cool?! Dude, you clearly won The best costume award by far!” Tom outstretched his arms, as to prove his surrender.
“Hold on, we haven’t even seen the Bellamys!” Dom protested with a wicked smile on his face.
“Well, they might not outstrip the beauty of your costume but from what I’ve seen so far their make-up is going to be epic!” Tom said while wiggling his eyebrows playfully.
“Really? More details, please!” Dom pleaded, eager to hear more because he didn’t like things to be kept from him.
“Ah, ah, we have strict orders to keep our mouths shut about this matter,” Chris replied with an evil twinkle in his dark eyes, “however; you have the privilege to admire the decorations we’ve been working on so hard.”
Even though Dom was a bit disappointed that he couldn’t meet his other friends yet, he forgot about everything when he stepped into the large living-room of the Bellamy residence. The room had undergone a radical transformation. The dominant colours were black and crimson; spooky masks covered the walls, faux spiders were hanging from the ceiling, sewing their sticky webs, witches were laughing in the corner and there were also the never-failing pumpkins which were carved to wear the most hideous smiles. The jack-o’-lanterns illuminated the room in a mysterious way, transforming it into a place from another dimension where magic was something real, where everything was possible.
Dom stared in awe at the eerie but eye-appealing room, inwardly praising Chris, Linda and Matt for their creative work. Tom decided to be the DJ that night and he started the party with loud punk music.
“Would you like a glass of blood?” Chris asked impishly, chuckling when he saw Dom’s puzzled expression, “Don’t worry, it’s just fruit juice but it looks very realistic.”
Just as the boys clinked their glasses, they heard muffled sounds coming from the bathroom.
“It seems the princesses have finished their preparation,” Chris whispered amusedly. He put on a serious look on his face, made a sign to Tom to prepare his camera and, announced ceremoniously:
“Gentlemen, I present you the Angel of Light and her mean brother, Count Dracula.”
The door opened and Dominic was on pins and needles, unable to stop grinning as he watched the siblings enter the room. Linda wore a long white dress graced with silver stars. She also had a beautiful pair of feathery white wings and a silver halo above her head. Everybody thought that she had never looked more beautiful and while the others were applauding, Chris hurried to his girlfriend and kissed his angel passionately.
Dominic reared his head so he would have a better view of his desk-mate. At first he only saw a pair of black shoes but soon the whole figure became visible. Matthew definitely seemed taller and the all-black, old-fashioned tuxedo made his frame look even more slender. He entered the room shyly, with his head bowed but in the next moment he raised his eyes to meet Dominic’s curious look. The shyness was gone from Matt’s cobalt eyes and instead of it they shone with mischief and provocative sultriness.
“Dracula” stretched his arms out to reveal the gorgeous cape which covered his shoulders, imitating the famous scene from the movie.
The evening continued very pleasantly, some more friends arriving later. Tom was responsible to take photos and to make sure that the guests felt good by playing popular disco songs. Dom finally saw Linda alone and tiptoed to her.
“Hey pretty,” he greeted the birthday girl cheerfully, kissing her cheek from behind.
“Dominic!” Linda squealed surprisedly and smiled from ear to ear when the blonde boy sneaked a small box in her left hand.
She opened it immediately, her eyes becoming watery when she saw a beautiful pair of silver earrings. She hugged Dom tightly, whispering ‘thank you’ in his ear.
“I’m glad you like it, actually my sister advised me to present you with some nice jewelry,” Dom confessed, his cheeks gradually reddening because he felt Matt’s stare on him.
“Oh, next time she comes home, promise me that you’ll introduce me to her,” Linda added, with Dom nodding in agreement. Unfortunately, Linda had to run and answer to the phone, leaving Dom alone in the room. As he was about to move somewhere else, Matt appeared behind him with two glasses in his hands and the two boys almost bumped into each other.
“Your Majesty,” said Matt as he bowed his head reverently, offering one of the drinks. Dom chuckled and while they slowly sipped their juice, they were secretly eying each other. It was that moment when Dom noticed that Matthew was wearing eyeliner. So that’s why he’s stare is so intense… Matt had also done something with his hair; it was all shiny and combed back, following the fashion of the twenties.
“Oh, this is not the alcohol-free version of blood,” Matt giggled, shrugged and simply drank it to the bottom. Dominic watched his desk-mate’s Adam apple bobbing and blurted out without thinking:
“You look good.” Dom, you idiot, what did you say?!
“You think?” Matt asked, facing his friend with a telling look, “Well, you can’t complain either…” He threw a flirty look in the blonde’s direction and continued with another subject, “By the way, did you come alone?”
Dominic looked around to make sure that nobody was listening to their conversation before answering: “Yeah, Annette had to solve a… an unforeseen problem.” He was sure that Matthew sensed his lie but he was too embarrassed to confess that his girlfriend considered a shopping day in London much more important than a few hours spent with friends. She even made Dominic feel guilty for not accompanying her, which was very stupid and childish; the boy’s fears of her shallow personality were being confirmed.
Matt didn’t fail to notice his friend’s sudden change in mood and he regretted asking something which caused him pain. He put his hand on Dom’s shoulder and asked gently if he was all right.
“Yeah, sure,” Dominic smiled weakly, “let’s get some more alcohol, shall we?”
* * * * *
Over the next hours most of the guests were partying on the dance floor. Dominic did the same and tried to forget about the fights he had with Annette, though he could not ignore the constant peer of a pair of ice blue eyes. Even if he was not facing Matt, Dom knew that he was the object of his stare… Interestingly, it actually didn’t annoy him; rather, it hit his fancy and he found himself shooting seductive glances to Dracula who drew nearer and nearer as the night went on.
By the time Linda put an end to the party, both boys were tipsy because they were not used to drinking. They weren’t acting ridiculously or so, they were just smiling more than usual and when Tom suggested taking some group photos, they gladly obliged. In the end, Dom also requested a photo of only himself and his desk-mate. Matt put an arm around the blonde and his gesture was rewarded with an even wider grin.
“Hey Tom, could you take a pic like… like where Matt would bite my neck?” Dom asked innocently.
“Yeah, sure. Just stand over there, so the light will be more interesting,” Tom commanded.
At first, they shifted awkwardly but finally Matt wreathed his arms around Dominic from behind, enveloping him too in the silkiness of the cape. The blonde surrendered completely in the strong embrace, lolling his head to the right so the “vampire” would have better access to his smooth neck. Matt bent down and opened his mouth to show his fake fangs to the camera. But Dom’s closeness was such a sultry and elating experience that after he heard the clicking of Tom’s camera and was sure that nobody was watching, he closed the tiny, but relevant distance and pressed his hot lips against the perfect neck lying under it.
In a twinkling of an eye all of Matt’s senses were invaded by Dominic’s poison: the sensitive skin of his lips was itching to resume the contact with Dom’s skin. He still smelled the unique aroma of his friend in his nose and he tasted with relish the flavour that had impregnated on his lips; the fast pounding of the blonde’s heart was the most beautiful melody he had ever heard.
The loss of contact made Dominic even more confused and he realised that he was enjoying things which he shouldn’t have been. Although Matt disappeared from his field of vision, he could not erase him from his thoughts. As quick as possible, he said goodbye to Linda and Chris. On his way home, the very cold air shook him to his senses and he was almost convinced that everything had happened just in his imagination. Despite this fact, the first thing he did when he arrived home was to run into the bathroom and check his neck in the mirror. Of course, there wasn’t any physical sign of the kiss but Dom would never forget that spot which was still burning… burning to be kissed again. Howard, you are a complete idiot! Dom thought to himself and shook his head.
He didn’t have any more strength to argue with himself, so he hit the sack and was asleep in moments.

Date: 2010-11-02 10:24 pm (UTC)Holly, you're way too kind to me, leaving such a long and nice comment! <3
It's like seeing two good friends you've known for so long finally getting together; it's perfect and you just feel all happy and giddy inside.
Oh, that was so cute, thank you! I can't even express how happy you made me, I'm the giddy one around here! :P
Tell you the truth, as soon as you said Count Dracula for Matt, I did envision the old-style Bela Lugosi kind of vampire, and I really wanted to draw a picture of Matt in the costume! ^_^
*highfives* Lugosi was a perfect vampire and Matt would be perfect for a similar role! Btw, Lugosi was Hungarian! ;)
NOOOO, I kind stand so much flattery, my cheeks are burning! :O :3 I agree that this was the best chapter but ohhhh, I don't think I'm capable of writing something more "stunning" as you said it...
*biggest hugs ever and sends inspiration*

Date: 2010-11-04 03:10 am (UTC)You deserve a nice long comment, my dear; this story is just son wonderful, I wish that I could read even more!
Lugosi was Hungarian as well? Ooo, he is definitely my favourite vampire interpretations, no one will ever match him again ^^ Well, of course...Matt would look wonderful in the costume :D
Thank you for the inspiration, I really need it right now. I keep staring at the blank page, wanting my Starstruck chapter to write itself >.< I know what the problem is, I'd led myself to write a shexy time chapter, but I really am no good at writing those!
Everything you write is stunning, my dear. I wouldn't say it otherwise if it wasn't true. ^_^ It's what makes you such a fascinating writer, you manage to maintain a captivating story throughout, drawing more fans with every chapter and keeping us all on the edge of our seats for the next one! *crosses fingers and hopes it's soon*
*big hugs and loves*
